Possible end to free prescriptions

A shortage of money for cancer drugs could herald the end of free prescriptions in Northern Ireland by the end of the years.

Health, social services and public safety minister Edwin Poots has said he is considering reintroducing prescription charges to cover the cost of drugs to treat a range of conditions, such as cancer, cystic fibrosis and arthritis.  However, But BMA Northern Ireland GPs committee chair Brian Dunn warned that any review of the prescription system must be fair to all patients.
