Premature baby dies after outbreak of bug at hospital
10th October 2012An outbreak of a water-borne bacterium at a Bristol neonatal unit has claimed the life of a premature baby and meant 12 others required treatment.
Traces of pseudomonas aeruginosa have been in the water system for the neonatal intensive care unit at Southmead Hospital. The baby died in August after contracting the bacterium and comes after four babies died after contracting the bug in hospitals in Northern Ireland in December and January. The bacterium was also found at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in March.
