Prescribing heroin 'best way' to treat addicts

21st September 2009

The government's justice secretary Jack Straw has said that giving heroin prescriptions could be the solution to treating "problematic addicts".

In an article in the Lancashire Telegraph, the Blackburn MP said: "It may be the best means of reducing the harm they do to themselves, and of stamping out the crime and disorder they inflict." He added that prescriptions would be a "drastic step" that could be used to treat a small proportion of addicts.
