24th July 2007

A group of MPs will examine the misuse of prescription and "over-the-counter" medicine.

The committee, known as the All Party Parliamentary Group on Drug Misuse, intends to find out how many people are affected in the UK and offer constructive solutions to the problem.

Dr Brian Iddon, chairman of the committee, said: "The misuse of prescription and over-the-counter medicines is a problem that has been affecting the UK for many years."

"We know that thousands of people's lives have been affected."
