Prison funding for drug misuse

11th August 2006

The government is to provide £55m to improve drug treatment programmes for adults in English prisons.  This will provide roll out of an 'integrated drug treatment system' for 17 prisons, with a partial roll out to 45 prisons.

The director of the government's health and offender partnerships, John Boyington, said that "Prison clinical drug services have to date often been under-resourced and have delivered inadequate or inappropriate clinical treatment practices."
