Private firm to run NHS hospital

26th November 2010

A NHS trust hospital will become the first of its kind to be entirely run by a private company.

The company Circle will take over the management of Hinchingbrooke hospital in  Cambridgeshire after it ran up almost £40 million of debts. Dr Stephen Dunn, director of strategy at the East of England Strategic Health Authority, said: "Hinchingbrooke has major debts and might have had to close, or receive a large subsidy paid for by the taxpayer. Thanks to this process this is not the case."
