Privatisation plans attacked

12th February 2008

Family doctors have attacked the decision to let a US private healthcare organisation take charge of a local surgery in Tower Hamlets, London.

The Tower Hamlets Local Medical Committee say that the Tower Hamlets PCT has delivered "the death-knell to the East End's NHS" by allowing the surgery to be run by Atos Healthcare rather than local GPs. More than a hundred staff and patients held a demonstration last week when the surgery was given to Atos.
