Protest over RCN pension closure

7th December 2006

The Royal College of Nursing’s decision to close its in-house final salary pension scheme is being extended to existing workers as well as new staff.

The news has sparked protest from the GMB union who said around 800 staff would be affected by the news.

The RCN say the scheme has a large deficit and they need to take action, but the GMB has pointed out that the college has fought to hold on to similar schemes for NHS nurses.
