RCN says Darzi a friend of nurses

18th November 2008

The Royal College of Nurses chief executive and general secretary Peter Carter has called health minister Lord Darzi "a friend of nurses" because he trained the first nurse endoscopist.

In a speech to the Nurse Practitioner Association conference in Liverpool last week, he said: "It depresses me when I go around and meet many nurses who don’t think Darzi is a friend of nursing. He is very pro-nursing and in the early 1990s he trained the first ever nurse endoscopist despite great hostility from his colleagues."
