Recycled cardboard health risk

8th March 2011

The BBC said it was made aware that UK manufacturers were changing packaging because of concerns over health risks from recycled cardboard packets.

Cereal manufacturer Jordans said it was not going to use recycled cardboard. Research showed that chemicals from the cardboard could contaminate food contained within the packets. The Food Standards Agency is carrying out an investigation and Terry Donohoe, the acting head of the FSA's chemical safety division, said: "Should there be any evidence from our study - and we will carry out a risk assessment - we will take immediate action to protect the public."
