Regulating foundation trusts' costs could double

28th May 2009

Monitor has said that it expects the cost of regulating foundation trusts to nearly double in the next three years.

It points to expected growth in the number of foundation trusts and a greater risk of failure due to the recession as accounting for a planned increase from £4m in 2008/09 to £7.9m in 2011/12. However, Monitor’s other costs such as assessment and providing information, will remain almost static. Projections outlined in its corporate plan show overall spending rising from £15.3m in 2008/09 to £19.6m.
