Relieve pain by crossing your arms

Researchers from University College London have suggested that crossing your arms across your body after injury to the hand could relieve pain.

The team undertook a proof-of-concept study of 20 people, and concluded that the brain gets confused over where pain has occurred. Publishing their findings in the journal Pain, they suggest this is because putting hands on the "wrong" sides disrupts sensory perception. Pain experts say that finding ways of confusing the brain is the focus of many studies.
