Safeguarding children in Haringey review

14th November 2008

The Healthcare Commission is performing an urgent review of its child protection processes after the death of a baby.

A letter was sent to the Department for Children, Schools and Families in 2007 to complain that the department was not carrying out procedures properly. Six months later a baby died although 60 visits were made to the abusive family by social workers.

A DCSF spokeswoman said: "The permanent secretary of the DCSF has looked at the reply and is confident that the proper procedures were followed."
