Sainsbury's to roll out 200 GP franchises

4th March 2009

Supermarket Sainsbury’s is to roll out up to 200 in-store GP franchises, it has emerged.

The company has already started to approach GPs to run surgeries alongside dentists and other health services in what it calls in-store polyclinics. Stores in London and Leeds are among those earmarked for the first wave of Sainsbury’s-branded GP services. However, some GP leaders have raised ethical concerns over the initiative which would allow doctors to run services, or even locate branch surgeries in the stores.
