Salmonella hits care home

6th October 2009

A spokesperson from the Health Protection Agency has confirmed that an elderly woman has died after catching salmonella at a care home in Wearside.

An investigation into the outbreak, which has infected eight people in total at the Millum House Care Home, is underway. Dr Tricia Cresswell, of the HPA, said: "Anyone can get salmonella, but young children, the elderly and people with serious underlying infections have a greater risk of becoming severely ill."
