Scan to rule out maternity DVT

25th April 2012

New research published online in bmj.com has suggested that a single complete compression ultrasonography scan could be used to rule out deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in pregnant women and those who have recently given birth.

However, while saying that the scan appeared safely to exclude suspected DVT, the research team acknowledged that further work was needed to confirm their findings. They looked a 210 women – either pregnant or within three months post-partum – who had been referred from medical practices in France or Switzerland for investigation of suspected DVT for their study.
