Scheme to free up nurses' time

13th May 2008

Health Secretary Alan Johnson has put forward the Productive Ward programme, which lets nurses analyse how they work and enables them to make positive changes.

Mr Johnson said last week that £50m would be allocated so the initiative could be run on a national basis. 80% of trusts have said they will try out the initiative. "The great factor in this work is that it is developed by the people delivering the service," said Professor Bernard Crump, chief executive of the NHS Institute.
