Scrap scrip charges for cancer drugs

24th September 2008

Prime Minister Gordon Brown has announced that the government is to scrap prescription charges on cancer drugs.

In his keynote speech to the Labour conference in Manchester, Mr Brown said he wanted to "relieve the financial worry that so often goes alongside the heartache" for those who are battling cancer. From next year, with the NHS having saved on its drugs budget, he said that such savings would now be "ploughed back" into abolishing charges for all patients with long-term conditions.
