Screening programme for aneurysms rolled out in Wales

12th October 2012

Men aged 65 across Wales are to be offered screening for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) as a £1.6m programme is rolled out across the country.

Figures show that four in 100 men in Wales have AAA and the hope is that the screening programme could cut deaths from the condition - which occurs as an aneurysm forms in the aorta - by as much as half. Seven Welsh health boards are working together under the Wales Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme with Public Health Wales and the Welsh government.
