Social care 'standardisation' call

3rd January 2008

A national charity has called for the “postcode lottery in social care for the elderly to be addressed to stop some people using up their life savings to pay for it.

Counsel and Care has called on the government to standardise criteria so that everyone receives the same level of assistance. The charity fears at present that almost two million people do not receive any care at all. While acknowledging some elements of care have to be paid for, it is concerned that people with modest savings are being penalised by strict means testing criteria.
