Stop smoking for relaxed babies

13th March 2008

Women who quit smoking during pregnancy tend to give birth to more relaxed babies.

Researchers from the University of York found that the children of women who had kicked the habit were more relaxed at nine months old, were more receptive and more likely to have regular eating and sleeping patterns. The findings are based on 18,000 babies born between 2000 and 2002 who took part in the Millennium Cohort Study and are published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health.
