Super cancer centre opens in Birmingham

19th February 2009

Cancer Research UK is launching the country's first "super cancer centre" in Birmingham.

It will set the pace for global and national progress for genetics, gene therapy and the link between viruses and some cancers with experts also studying prostate and bladder cancers and leukaemia. The centre’s staff will work in partnership with the University of Birmingham and the development will see the charity increase its financial backing to research in Birmingham to £9m a year, with the city becoming a leading centre for clinical trials.
