Super trusts to integrate acute and primary care

The creation of five new UK "super trusts" could lead to better partnerships and healthcare for patients, according to two experts.

Imperial College Healthcare trust chief executive Professor Stephen Smith said the integration of primary and secondary care could help patient services. He said the merging of St Mary’s and Hammersmith Hospitals trusts to create the Imperial demonstrated that change could work: “We created the largest merger in the health service ever and our performance overall has improved.”
