Superbug targets 'missed'

A Midland Hospital trust which axed more than 500 jobs last year, has claimed it failed to hit targets for tackling superbugs like MRSA and Clostridium difficile as "addiional resources were not avaialble" Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs City Hospital and Sandwell General, were one of two trusts in the region to be bsted by the Healthcare Commission for not meeting several of the 24 core standards.

Dudley Group of Hospitals NHS trust, responsible for Russell's Hall and Wordsley Hospitals, was also assessed at haveing "unmet" hygeine standards.
