Tesco pledge to raise money for cancer

10th January 2012

The supermarket chain Tesco has said it has made Cancer Research UK its charity of the year for 2012/13.

It has said it will raise £10 million for the charity during the year. David North, Tesco's UK corporate affairs director, said: "This is the first time we have chosen a research charity. Cancer Research UK is a hugely effective, well run, brilliant charity." He said the company wanted to help to decrease the "burden of cancer" which is the second-highest cause of death in Britain after heart disease.
