Thousands at risk from undiagnosed glaucoma

10th October 2008

Specialists have suggested that up to 500,000 people in England and Wales risk losing their sight because they have undiagnosed glaucoma.

A simulation developed at City University in London has been used to show how badly glaucoma can affect driving and now experts want people to visit an optician to test for the condition, caused by too much pressure inside the eye. The call follows a survey by drug firm Pfizer which suggests a third of people do not know about its symptoms.
