Thousands of hospital patients malnourished

22nd January 2010

Official NHS figures have revealed that 10,000 patients have become malnourished while in NHS hospitals.

In 2008/09, data shows that 175,003 patients were victims of malnutrition or another nutritional difficulty when they were admitted to hospital but 185,446 were suffering the same conditions when they were discharged. The figures obtained by the Tories show a 27% rise on the previous year of 8,229 prompting critics to say it was almost unbelievable that hospitals were routinely sending people home in a worse condition than when they arrived.
