Thousands of patients failed by Choose & Book

5th September 2008

One in five patients are finding it difficult to book an appointment under the Choose and book initiative.

Dr Stephen Miller, Choose and Book medical director and a GP in south-east London, said around 5,000 patients a day were affected after finding it impossible to book an appointment through the national telephone appointments line after they had been referred by their GP. He claimed the problem was being caused by hospital trusts restricting slot availability in order to meet the Government’s flagship 18-week target.
