Three call centres closed by NHS Direct

29th September 2011

NHS Direct is planning to close three call centres in Norwich, Ipswich and Chelmsford.

Health union Unison has condemned the move, saying it will hit the 120 staff, the economy of East Anglia, and patients in other parts of the country, however NHS Direct said that the move had been made because the landlord of two of the sites – East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust – had given it notice to quit and the third centre depends for support on the other two.
