Tick bite warning issued to campers

The Tick Alert Campaign Group has issued a warning of severe illness from tick bites to people who plan to camp in the Highlands.

Cases of Lyme disease rose to 285 in Scotland in 2008, in comparison to only three in 1999. A spokeswoman for Tick Alert said: "The outdoors is a great way to holiday and relax, but we are saying to people to think about tick bite prevention just as you would sun protection."
