Heartburn is the name given to a reflux of stomach acid, mixed with partially digested foods or liquids. The pain comes from reflux moving into the throat or oesophagus.
More than 60 million people in America alone complain of having symptoms of heartburn at least once per week.
While suffering from heartburn occasionally is not typically a cause for concern, long-term occurrences can lead to disorders of the digestive system.
The following can help ease the pain:
- Chew gum
- Drink more water
- Good posture
- Breath deeply
- Look at the diet
- Eat more protein
