Tougher rules for alcohol ads

25th March 2011

Health experts have backed a bid to get the government to take a tougher stance on alcohol advertising in the UK.

Tory backbencher Dr Sarah Wollaston, who is a GP, will put forward a private member’s bill – based on French legislation - next week to limit the exposure of children to alcohol marketing. The British Medical Association and university experts said the move would go a long way to protect children. Similar legislation has already cut alcohol consumption in France.
