Tougher standards planned for FTs

5th January 2011

Monitor has published proposals which will see foundation trusts face tougher standards from next year on tracking and reporting care quality.

Under the proposed changes to the foundation trust regulator’s compliance framework, trust boards will have to confirm they have considered “patterns of serious incidents and complaints” when self-certifying that they have sound arrangements for monitoring and improving healthcare standards. They will also have to confirm they have tested their quality governance against a detailed checklist originally introduced following the Mid Staffordshire Foundation Trust scandal.
