Tramadol needs tighter control

22nd February 2013

The Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) has said that tighter controls should be put on the painkiller tramadol.

The UK’s official drugs adviser has raised concerns about an increase in the number of deaths related to misusing the psychoactive drug in a letter to the health secretary and the home secretary. The number of deaths related to the drug was 154 in 2011, which is an increase on the 87 deaths in 2009 and 83 in 2008.
