Trusts fail to balance books

3rd October 2008

The Audit Commission has reported that 20 NHS trusts and Primary Care Trusts did not "balance their books" in 2007.

12 of the trusts had failed to achieve a balance for three years running. The chairman of the Audit Commision, Michael O'Higgins said; "Poor financial management can put services for patients at risk. Patients and the public deserve better from the poor performers, who must learn from the strong performers."
