Trusts failing on safety alerts

17th February 2010

The charity Action Against Medical Accidents has suggested that three-quarters of NHS trusts are not complying with safety alerts to avoid errors occurring.

The organisation said it had found that about 300 trusts had not complied with at least one patient safety alert despite the deadline passing and feared that lives were being put at risk as a result. The Department of Health said it expected all trusts to comply with the alerts and it would be issuing all NHS organisations a formal reminder of their obligations in this respect.
