Twice as many men die from alcohol abuse

A new study has created an "alcohol death map" which shows the number of male deaths caused by drinking is twice that of female deaths in Scotland.

Researchers from Glasgow University and the Medical Research Council discovered that the highest amount of alcohol-related deaths occured in and around Glasgow.

Co-author Dr Richard Mitchell said: "Scotland is facing a huge public health problem which will require strong and radical action by the Scottish Government."
