Two hospitals in financial trouble taken over
1st February 2012Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is to take over the running of two hospitals in north Cumbria after ongoing financial problems.
Some medical staff said they had no faith in management at the North Cumbria Hospitals NHS Trust, which has accepted it was not strong enough to survive on its own and agreed the takeover. The move affects the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven. While staff morale was reported to be at an all-time low, the trust denied patient safety was ever at risk.
