Unison split over NHS pensions

2nd May 2012

Unison as revealed that a ballot of members on the government’s NHS pension reform plan has failed to deliver a clear verdict.

Returns from the vote show that members were split down the middle with 50.4% voting to reject the pensions deal while 49.5% voted to accept the offer. Of the 373,000 members who were eligible to vote, the turnout was low with only 14.8% taking part and the union has acknowledged that the result had not delivered the “clear rejection” the union had said it would need to take sustained industrial action.
