Vasectomy rates fall

14th November 2012

Data from the NHS Information Centre has shown that there has been a sharp fall in the number of vasectomies performed by the NHS in England over the last 10 years.

There were 15,106 performed in 2011-12 compared with 37,700 in 2001-02, which the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (Bpas) which compiled the statistics described as disappointing. Reservations about the irreversible nature of vasectomies and the likelihood of relationships potentially breaking down have been suggested as one factor in the fall in procedures.
