'Very enouraging' figures for HPV vaccine

Latest figures for the HPV vaccine show that more than nine out of 10 of eligible schoolgirls in Scotland have had at least one injection to help protect them from cervical cancer.

The vaccination is given in three doses and offers protection against HPV, which is the cause of 70% of cervical cancer cases. The Scottish government say the new figures are very encouraging, though it acknowledged the catch-up programme has had less success with those girls who had left school.
