Virtual diabetes clinic to go live

23rd November 2012

A virtual diabetes clinic is set to help patients in the Scottish Highlands better manage their condition.

The virtual clinic, which will see patients choosing the best way to interact with a clinician, will go live from next January with the year-long pilot offering support to people with type one diabetes who live long distances away from specialist services. Figures show that just over 30% of people in Scotland with type one diabetes reach target levels of control to prevent complications. The pilot will involve about 20 patients who have difficulty controlling their disease.
