Virtual game 'disease model'

Scientists in the US have suggested that the way game players reacted to a killer disease in an online game could help to understand what might happen in real life.

World HealthA plague infected gamers playing the World of Warcraft game, killed thousands and caused huge disruption. Researcher Professor Nina Fefferman, from Tufts University School of Medicine, said in Lancet Infectious Diseases: "Virtual worlds offer an excellent platform for studying human behaviour."

"The players seemed to really feel they were at risk and took the threat of infection seriously."
