Virtual game 'disease model'21st August 2007
Scientists in the US have suggested that the way game players reacted to a killer disease in an online game could help to understand what might happen in real life.
A plague infected gamers playing the World of Warcraft game, killed thousands and caused huge disruption. Researcher Professor Nina Fefferman, from Tufts University School of Medicine, said in Lancet Infectious Diseases: "Virtual worlds offer an excellent platform for studying human behaviour."
"The players seemed to really feel they were at risk and took the threat of infection seriously."
