Vouchers for obese who lose weight

6th July 2009

A new project, designed to encourage overweight people to lose weight, will be launched in September in Essex.

The Pound-for-Pound scheme will give volunteers a £1 voucher for fruit and vegetables at the Asda supermarket for every pound they drop in weight. The pilot project will last for three months and involve 100 people. It is being run jointly by NHS South West Essex and Basildon District Council. A spokesman for the coucil called the scheme "an encouragement...to keep people motivated."
