Vulnerable children should be taken into care earlier

28th June 2010

A Demos report has said that if at-risk children were taken into care earlier then millions of pounds could be saved and the child would fare better.

The report, which received funding from the children's charity Barnardo's, said almost £33,000 annually per child could be saved by swifter action. Researchers said: "A shift of resources and investment to the beginning of a child's care journey could have real long-term benefits for that child and minimise the costs associated with unstable and unhappy care experiences later on."
