Vulnerable patients in new care safety alerts

29th October 2012

NHS data has shown safeguarding alerts are in place for "at least" 19 of 51 former Winterbourne View patients following their move to other care homes.

Undercover filming by the BBC's Panorama programme last year showed patients at the Bristol care home being abused by staff. Last week 11 staff members were sentenced at Bristol Crown Court for mistreating patients. The new alerts show one patient had been assaulted and a criminal inquiry had been started. The government said there was "no excuse" for patients to be mistreated.
