Wales free prescriptions under threat

1st May 2009

An adviser to Plaid Cymru has told the BBC that job losses and the end of free prescriptions in Wales could be a result of budget cuts.

The Welsh budget is due to be decreased by £600 million from 2011-2014. Dr Eurfyl ap Gwilym said: "At the end of the day if you look at the WAG [Welsh Assembly Government] budget the overwhelming majority of it - about 70% - is focused on health and education and therefore if you're going to make reductions those two places will unfortunately have to carry some of the cuts."
