Wales reforms delayed

13th November 2008

The overhaul of the NHS in Wales will not now be complete until late next year.

Welsh health minister Edwina Hart had been aiming for the spring or early summer for the restructure, which was first proposed by the Welsh NHS Confederation. But she has delayed the process after managers said the timescale would be unworkable. The overhaul, which will see eight trusts and 22 local health boards replaced with seven unified organisations and merge primary and secondary care, will not be complete until October 2009.
