Wales smoking ban success

2nd April 2008

The chief medical officer for Wales Dr Tony Jewell has described the smoking ban as a “milestone for public health in the year since it was introduced.

Figures show that 79 people and one business have been penalised for flouting the ban, but there has also been an increase in public support for the move and the Welsh Assembly Government says that more people are giving up smoking. Stop Smoking Wales says that 2,730 people who took part in one of their support programmes have stopped smoking since the ban.
