Warning issued against patients seeing records

13th January 2011

The British Medical Association has offered a cool reaction to plans for NHS patients in England to take control of their own medical records.

The BMA also warns that GPs may be deluged by emails from patients. The views come in the association’s 20-page response to the government’s vision of a computerised health service, set out in its paper Liberating the NHS: An Information Revolution. The paper proposes a locally led strategy for computerising the NHS and for patients to have greater access to electronic information, including their own medical records.
